It’s Okay To Be Afraid: Alone [[@master-airbender]]
Lin froze in her tracks at his words. Facing ahead of her, she blinked back tears.
“No amount of friendship can fix this, Tenzin.” She squinted her eyes closed to try and stop the tear that was threatening to blow her cover. “I really must be going, Tenzin. I have a lot on my plate” she stated shakily as she walked off.
“Lin, stop!” Tenzin yelled, grabbing her arm desperately. “Please, Lin, talk to me.” He begged, turning her to face him.
“Please.” He murmured, a long finger wiping the tear away from her pale cheek.
“No” she denied, growing angrier at her inability to control her emotions. “Just leave me alone, Tenzin!” she yelled at him, a few spare tears rolling down her scarred cheek.
“Why in spirit’s name would I do that, Love?” He whispered, the familiar pet name slipping easily into his words.
“I’ll never leave you alone, you should know that by now.”
“Well then now is a good time to start” she fumed, turning around and going even further away from him. She stormed away until she realized what he had called her.
“Love?” she asked quietly. “Love” she repeated louder. “I am not your “love”.” she said simply, completely unoffended.
He sputtered, just now noticing the slip up himself. “I-I-“
Spirits, there was no use in trying to make excuses, she would she right through him no matter what he did.
“But you were, Lin, and I’ll always be here.”
Whether you want me to be or not.

Lin strolled down the streets of Republic City, completely unsure of herself. Her job used to give her the stability she needed, but now…
She didn’t know what to believe.
She put her hands into her dark grey pockets and kicked a few pebbles near her feet. She kicked them nonchalantly until she reached a corner and walked to where she wanted to go: the park. She always used to practice her earthbending in a faraway corner of the park where the terrain was rocky and difficult to get to. It was private, and it helped her mull things over when she didn’t know where else to go. After a few minutes, she came across the place and sat down on a large boulder, admiring the sky.
Tenzin sighed, running a long, pale hand over his tired face. The children had been having nightmares since the Equalist fiasco, and Pema had been cranky due to the lack of sleep they were both getting, leading to the argument they’d just had earlier. The airbender paused at the sight of a familiar figure disappearing over an outcrop of rock, leading to a clearing he remembered well from his childhood. “Lin?” He asked softly, following the earthbender with light footsteps.
Lin sensed a light set of footsteps encroaching. She turned her head away from the vibrations. “Go away, Tenzin. I’m not in the mood to talk.” She rested her hands on her forehead.
“What’s wrong, Lin?” He asked, a pale hand resting comfortingly on her shoulder.
“Why are you here, of all places?” Tenzin remembered finding her here countless times when they were children whenever she’d been upset, and the thought of something bothering her now was unbearable.
“You’ll get your job back, Lin- no one could possibly replace you.”
“Always a man of chivalry” she mocked as she rolled over to stand on the ground. “I’m here, so I don’t have to talk to anyone. Now, if you don’t mind-” She began to walk away.
“Wait!” He called, following her stubbornly. ”You can talk to me, Lin.”
Had they really come to this? They used to tell each other everything, even when they were children. He sighed sadly, mourning the loss of their close friendship.
“Please- I miss you.”
